SERRO SCOTTY CAMPER ENTHUSIASTS

ENTHUSIASTS OF THE MONTH
DON AND BEV MANVELL
Don and Bev Manvell

Rome, Pa.

We live in Windham Township, Pa (Northeast PA).  We had 4 sons, Dan, Will, Keith and Kenneth (twins).  I worked for
E.I. DuPont for over 35 years until taking early retirement in late 2004.  DuPont was moving production to China!
Since retirement, Bev works part time in the spring for a plant nursery and I work part time for a car auction where I
pick up and deliver vehicles all over New York and Pa. (no stress!)

We both enjoy riding our Gold Wing motorcycle and camping with the Scotty group.  I fly Radio Control Model
Airplanes and Bev has a Water Garden and many Rock Gardens.  Our Scotty is a 1960 13' Mattress Model that
belonged to Bev's parents back in the '70's and 80's.  It was a Silverside but her father painted because he liked the
new colors and it kept it cooler inside.  After Bev's father died her mother sold the camper.  Bev has kept track of it for
years and it has had 3 owners and was never more then 8 miles from us.  Back in 2004 she bought it from the last
owner.   It was only 3 miles away.  He had used it to go to swap meets and sell car parts.  It then sat in the driveway for
a year until I retired.   I then spent almost everyday for over 3 months working on it until it was useable for camping.  It
had the usual leaks and one side was mostly replaced.  The ice box had been replaced with a very large gas heater.
When I removed the heated we found that all the wood around it was charged and burnt.  It was amazing it hadn't been
destroyed by fire.  We didn't do a like new restoration, we just made it as usable as we could.  Bev's parent's name is
still on the camper.  She calls it "Precious Memories".  We would like to have a larger Scotty but could never leave this
one home.

The picture "1982 Mexico NY" was Bev's parents camping in Mexico, NY.  The Scotty is towed with her fathers 1958
Studebaker.
