SERRO SCOTTY CAMPER ENTHUSIASTS

ROOF COATING AND TAR REMOVAL
My whole Scotty roof looked like that when I got it, Wasn't an
easy task to remove it all but what I found worked the
best(still wasn't easy or fast) was to soak a cloth it kerosene
or diesel fuel and soak that tar down, then with a plastic
putty knife start to remove the softened layers and repeat
that process several time, have plenty or rags available, and
good luck, at lease its not the entire roof.     Dennis

SUGGESTION FROM DENNIS  SIRWOKALOT
In the 80's I lucked up on some spray Tar and Paint
remover. Where I got mine came from a road construction
company that used it to remove tar from their equipment. It
would be expinsive to buy spray but maybe you could find
liquid brush on. It literally ate tar off of whatever it was on.
Be careful of what this gets on, will strip all the paint off of
whatever it comes in contact with.

In the asphalt business they use diesel fuel to soften the
dried and stuck asphalt. It won't eat it away but will soften it
so it can be easily removed with a putty knife. This would
be more gentle on the paint in case it goes over the side,
won't damage it, and a lot cheaper to buy.

Hope maybe one of these ideas helps.

SUGGESTION FROM DEPKMAP
In removing roof tar from around the edging, I used a stiff
putty knife to chip away what I could and then applied a
good coat of paint remover,(be care full if you get it on
the paint will take it off also) I then used the putty knife to
remove what I could that was soften,

I then used some rough steel wool dipped in paint
remover to remove the rest,  use some gloves as not to
get the remover on your hands,
