I had purchased a 68 15ft gaucho off of ebay, and my wife thought I was crazy, to
pay 200 dollars and have to drive from Morgantown Wv to Philidelphia PA to get it.
From the pictures it looked in pretty good shape, so on a Friday night about 10 pm
my daughter and I climbed into the Jeep, and off we went.  That night was cold and
rainy, and I should have waited till morning, but I was in a hurry to get there and get
back. The rain slowed us down alot, but we arrived at about 8 am in what turned out
to be almost downtown Philidelphia. It had stopped raining about an hour before
we got there, but as luck has it when i pulled into the driveway, it really started to
pour.   But there it was our 2nd Scotty, sitting back under some pine trees, covered
with needles, and branches.  from the drivers side, the camper looked really good,
but as I went around to the door side, what I saw did not impress me at all, the door
was shot, and the skin was pulling away at the corners, I went inside to look around
and was even less impressed, alot of the orginal interior was gone and had been
replaced by shelves and a bench seat.  The scotty had been used by a fire dept.
rescue squad, as a command post, in the closet was a huge 100 amp breaker box.
with all kinds of wires running out of it. The sink , stove were gone, and cabnets.
As I lifted up the back cover over the back gaucho , a small mouse decided he did
not want to go back to WV with me and ran up my arm and out the front door. At that
point i almost walked away and mark it up as being in to big of a hurry to get
another scotty,  But I was there I had driven all night in the rain, I thought might as
well try to get it home. So started the 11/2 hours of trying to get some lights to work.
Finally i had running lights and break and turn signals in the back, I had to cut into
my wiring harness on the Jeep, and do some creative wiring, so all taped up we
were ready for the long drive home.  I paid the guy for it, got a bill of sale, tried to
dry off some, and climbed into the Jeep and pulled out into traffic, headed toward
the interstate.  About a mile down the road, all of a sudden my horn started to blow
and all the lights on the Jeep blinked off and on. So here I was almost in downtown
Philidelphia, wet , cold, my daughter shaking from the dampness, everyone in all
the autos around us staring,  All I could do at that point is pull off the road and try
to figure out what happened, We pulled into a convient store parking lot, and I
unhooked the battery, I spent at least an hour tracing and testing wires, all the
while my daughter was shaking even more.  So I decided to get us a place to stay
and wait out the rain, till morning.  So I hooked up the battery, and started the Jeep,
and sure enough off goes the lights and horn again, I unhooked the horn, and
pulled out onto the road, and pulled into the first motel we came across.  After
getting a room and my daughter got a hot shower and put her cloths on the
register to dry, I went out and got the book for the Jeep, I found out when the alarm
goes off to reset it you put the key in the drivers side door turn it 3 times and it
turns off the alarm, sure enough did. I hooked the horn back up and the camper
everything worked great.  When I got back in our room, I told my daughter it was
fixed and we could leave in the morning.  About an hour later she said dad, can we
go home now,  she was really upset,  so after thinking about it I agreed so after
spending almost 80 dollars for a couple of hours 2  , for a room, off we went again.
The rest of the trip was uneventful, except every state trooper we passed, looked
us over good. It could have been the skin on the door flapping in the wind, or the
duct tape holding the corners together.  or it could have been because it was a
scotty, but we made it safe and sound and that scotty now belongs to my daughter.
